Mosomo Point sits on a quiet cove between Little and Big Cut Foot Sioux Lakes in the heart of Chippewa National Forest, a short drive north of Deer River on Highway 46 follow Forest Road 2190 just past the Cut Foot Sioux Visitor Information Center and you'll arrive at the campground within a few miles. The site count is small and straightforward: 22 single-family sites that are configured to accommodate both tents and RVs, each furnished with a picnic table and a metal campfire ring. Facilities are basic and rustic vault toilets and a hand-pumped drinking-water well and the host sells firewood on site. The fee is $16.00 per night; for current reservation rules, seasonal openings and any special regulations, stop at the Cut Foot Sioux Visitor Center (about a half-mile away) or check with the Forest Service before you go. The sheltered waters off Mosomo Point make this a go-to spot for flatwater paddling canoeing and kayaking here are calm compared with the larger nearby lake and anglers come for trophy muskie in Cut Foot Sioux and for walleye, perch and more on adjacent Lake Winnibigoshish, which also supports boating and water-skiing. Trails in the vicinity provide miles of opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and birdwatching, with access to the Simpson Creek Trail and routes in the Cut Foot Sioux National Recreation Area. Wildlife is part of the draw: loons, waterfowl and raptors such as osprey and bald eagles are commonly seen from campsites and shore. Beyond what's immediately at Mosomo Point, the Chippewa National Forest offers a broad range of recreation auto touring, OHV trails, picnicking, swimming and visitor-center programs among them so the campground makes a good base for exploring both quiet lakefront days and longer backcountry outings.
