“Like the site but not all the big rocks. Ill probably try a different site next time. ”
“Had site 1 for 2 weeks, was a quiet and joyful time with many campfires at night, Forest Service should still move some of the big rocks so we can use the loop that was there forever, just saying! Love Gooseneck Lake for all the boating and Lake activities!”

Gooseneck Lake Campsites occupy three small, rustic sites on Gooseneck Lake (123 acres) within the Munising/Rapid River portion of Hiawatha National Forest. The setting is a mixed hardwood and pine shoreline where each campsite sits directly on the lake; all three sites are set up to accommodate both tents and RVs. Site 1 is a compact, wooded area (40 ft x 30 ft) with rough road access and is best for a single family trailers are not recommended there. Site 3 is the largest (100 ft x 70 ft), an open area atop a small sandy bank with good access and room for two families and trailers; it also has one of the best swimming spots, though a high bank limits shoreline views. Site 4 (70 ft x 45 ft) sits on the lake's south side with a very shallow beach that's good for wading and swimming; its access road is narrow, with sharp turns and washboard roots, so trailers are generally not advised. Primitive toilets are available at sites 1 and 3, but there is no drinking water at any of the campsites bring everything you need or plan to treat water you bring. The lake is actively used by private cottages and recreationists, so expect to see pontoons, jet skis and water skiers along with fishing boats; this level of activity can affect how quiet the sites feel. Anglers will find a healthy fishery walleye, large and smallmouth bass, rock bass, sunfish and northern pike and an improved back-in public boat access is located near site 1 (the toilet by the boat launch is shared). On-site recreation includes swimming (best at sites 3 and 4), fishing and berry picking; nearby you'll find trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding within minutes and, about two miles northwest in Steuben, gasoline, groceries, bait, boat rentals, ice and MDNR licenses. Important practical notes: there is no drinking water, campsite amenities are primitive, and all three sites accommodate both RVs and tents but access varies by site call the Hiawatha National Forest for current fees, reservations, seasonal availability and any access advisories at (906) 474-6442 or (906) 387-2512 before you go.
