“Great campsite. Level, access to water. Excellent! you could bring a couple kayaks and a boat and tie up along the shore here. Cell phone service Limited if any. Access to pump water and bathroom. Very close. ”

About

Pete's Lake Campground sits on the shore of a 190-acre lake in the heart of Michigan's Hiawatha National Forest, surrounded by rolling hills and a mix of deciduous and conifer trees that give many sites a private, shaded feel. The campground has 47 sites in total: 45 sites are set up for both RVs and tents while 2 are tent-only, and a few of the sites look out over the water. Each site comes with a picnic table and a campfire ring, and about half the sites have access to a grill; accessible vault toilets and drinking water are available within the campground and in the shaded day-use picnic area on the lakeshore, which also provides multiple tables, benches and a fairly large parking area. Water is the focus here: Pete's Lake has a swimming beach and a fishing pier beside the day-use area, and anglers can expect northern pike, bass, walleye and perch. Small-boat launching and other water sports are popular from the shore, and the nine-mile Bruno's Run Trail passes directly through the campground, winding past several small lakes and offering hiking and mountain-biking in summer and snowshoeing or cross-country skiing in winter. If you want to explore farther, Big Island, Fish and Straits lakes lie within about 25 miles and the wider Hiawatha National Forest supports additional activities such as horse camping, interpretive programs and overnight cabins/lookouts. Practical details like current fees, reservation windows and seasonal road conditions are managed by the Forest Service, so check their site or contact the Ranger District before you go.
