What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (64 reviews, ★ 5.0). Not written or edited by us.

“Beautiful campground. Eastern Kentucky was hit by a flash flood. No one came around to warn us of the impending disaster. I haven't been able to get to my car or equipment for 2 weeks due to the campground flooding. There needs to be better disaster management at this site.”

Jill S 2 · Aug 2022 · Recreation.gov

“Beautiful , well kept ground's. Clean restrooms and showers. Spacious showers...much appreciated ! Friendly people always at the office. Just a very pleasant place to camp. Definitely one of my favorite places to camp.”

About

Littcarr Campground sits on the shore of Carr Creek Lake in the hilly, forested country of southeastern Kentucky, about 16 miles from Hazard and 18 miles from Whitesburg. The lake occupies a valley cut by Carr Fork, and the shoreline and adjacent marshes support a mix of hardwoods and pines with abundant songbirds and waterfowl good habitat for wildlife viewing and quiet mornings at the water's edge. On the water you'll find opportunities for boating, water skiing and swimming, and anglers routinely catch crappie, largemouth bass, bluegill and walleye. A short nature trail runs in the dam/tailwater area for an easy wander, while the six-mile Sugar Branch Trail departs from the dam and ties back to Sugar Lake Road for a longer day hike. Several well-known public lands and scenic spots are within easy driving distance, including Daniel Boone National Forest, Lilley Cornett Woods, Bad Branch Falls Nature Preserve, Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State Park, plus Buckhorn Lake for additional water access. The campground itself contains 45 total campsites: 43 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and 2 RV-only sites, all with electric and water hookups to support a mix of tent campers and RVs. Onsite facilities include flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, laundry facilities and a dump station, and family-oriented amenities such as two playgrounds, a covered picnic shelter, horseshoe pits and basketball and shuffleboard courts. The site layout and hookups make Littcarr suitable for anglers and boaters who want direct lake access, as well as families looking for playgrounds and courts nearby. Note the campground was closed from April 1 May 11 due to the COVID-19 outbreak; fees, reservation policies and seasonal availability can change, so check with the managing office or official park website before you go and plan your route via state routes connecting from I-75 through the Daniel Boone Parkway to SR-160, where the campground lies along the east side of the road.
