“The camp host was beyond friendly and accommodating! The facilities were clean and well maintained. We will definitely be going back to Trace Branch campground ”
“Nice quiet and beautiful place. Hosts are very friendly and helpful ”
“Thus place was a great place to stay, especially if you like kayking and fishing. Make sure you don't follow google maps, it will lead you down a 1 lane road and we had to back our trailer up for nearly 1/2 mile. But the campground was definitely worth the trip.”

Trace Branch Campground sits along the shore of Buckhorn Lake in eastern Kentucky's Cumberland Plateau, a landscape cut by narrow, winding valleys and a braided network of streams fed by the Kentucky River. From Lexington it's a drive of roughly 80 90 miles south and east via I-75 and the Daniel Boone Parkway toward the Hyden/Thousandsticks area; locally the campground is reached from KY-257 and Mosley Bend Road near the Confluence bridge. The site feels like part of the plateau steep watersheds and mixed hardwoods frame the lake rather than wide, flat meadows so you'll find a mix of shaded pulls and open grassy spots for setting up chairs or a picnic. If you want to stretch beyond the campground, nearby natural destinations include Lilley Cornett Woods, the Daniel Boone National Forest, Natural Bridge State Resort Park and the Red River Gorge geological area. Practical camping here is straightforward: Trace Branch offers a total of 29 campsites, 28 of which accommodate both RVs and tents and one that is tent-only, and most of those sites sit at or very near the water. Many sites include electric and water hookups, and the campground supports basic conveniences a shower house, a playground, horseshoe pits and a convenient fishing area so it's set up for family camping or anglers who plan to spend long days on the lake. Buckhorn Lake is known for quieter waters that favor anglers (muskie fishing is frequently highlighted) and the water temperatures make swimming and water-skiing popular in summer months; miles of local trails invite hikers and wildlife viewers as well. Other activities in the Buckhorn Lake area include auto touring, environmental education, picnicking and cultural/historic sites, and there are lodges and concessions in the broader park area. Fees, reservation policies and seasonal availability are determined by park management, so check Buckhorn Lake State Park's website or call the park office before you go to confirm current rates, reservation windows and any access requirements.
