Pound River Campground sits on the shore of the John W. Flannagan Reservoir at roughly 1,400 feet above sea level, where the dam-created lake stretches to about 1,145 acres and nearly 40 miles of shoreline carved through the Cumberland Mountains. The loop of campsites here is small and straightforward: 26 total sites, of which 21 accommodate RVs and 5 are designated for tents. On-site facilities geared toward family use and group gatherings include electric hookups at many sites, bathhouses, picnic shelters with grills, a playground and horseshoe pits; boat launch ramps put the water within easy reach for paddlers and powerboats. The reservoir is known locally for fishing bass, walleye and trout are commonly pursued in the reservoir's deeper coves and the surrounding forested ridges offer opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing and cycling on nearby roads and trails. Getting to Pound River Campground is a short drive from Clintwood: follow Brush Creek Road (State Route 631) about 2.2 miles, then SR 754 for about 1.1 miles before turning onto Pound River Campground Road into the site. The park's project lands adjoin Jefferson National Forest, so longer day hikes and backcountry access are convenient, and Breaks Interstate Park with its dramatic rock formations, lodging, dining and river-based activities lies within easy reach for a fuller outing. A concession facility and a range of water-sport and picnic areas are part of the broader recreation area, but specific services, fees, reservation policies and seasonal availability can change; check the managing agency (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers/park office) before you go for current rules, campsite reservations, launch availability and any seasonal closures.
