“The campground was clean, well organized. Beautiful views of the reservoir. Minimal road noise even though it is just above the highway. ”
“Great time at Macks Creek. The rangers that checked in us were wonderful. The water was extremely low so my grandkids had tons of beach to play in. Very clean and well maintained. Great experience ”
“Great sneak-away from the City. Gets real calm. I'd use it if it was open longer. Be Safe!”

Macks Creek Park sits on the Boise River arm of Lucky Peak Lake about 25 miles southeast of Boise, reached from Highway 21 (the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway) via Arrowrock Road and the High Bridge. The campground occupies a narrow strip of lakeshore at roughly 3,055 feet elevation, where stands of shade trees drop into sagebrush-and-bitterbrush country and the water, when full, stretches about 12 miles upriver with roughly 45 miles of shoreline and over 3,000 surface acres. A boat ramp inside the park puts you straight onto the lake for boating, water-skiing and general water sports; anglers can expect rainbow trout, kokanee and smallmouth bass. Wildlife is visible year-round bald and golden eagles, mule deer, chukar and other upland and riparian species and the wider Lucky Peak/Arrowrock corridor also offers interpretive and historic sites, picnic areas, playground and specialized recreation facilities and concession services managed around the reservoir and in the Boise National Forest. The park is intentionally small and primitive: there are 14 campsites in total five that accommodate both RVs and tents and nine tent-only sites with clean vault toilets, a hand-pumped drinking-water source and an emergency telephone on site. Parking is limited, there is no cell service at the lake, and the volunteer camp host (present during the reservation season) has scheduled days off, so plan accordingly; two nearby businesses within about 10 miles provide only basic food and supplies. Reservations must be made in advance (no on-site transactions) online or by calling 1-877-444-6777, and for general park information call (208) 343-0671. If you want to extend your trip, Arrowrock Reservoir and Boise National Forest are close by for additional hiking, fishing and more primitive camping check the Forest Service for current regulations and seasonal closures before you go.
