“Quiet, clean and colorful for fall. Camp host made himself known ,if I needed anything and seemed to run a tight ship. Great experience ”
“There was no camp host during our stay. Our site had paintings obviously by children on some of the trees and rocks. The site was not cleaned. The toilet had very little toilet paper, we had to use our own by the morning. ”

Malad Summit Campground sits alongside Mill Creek at about 6,100 feet, in a shady stand of maples dotted with tall Douglas firs. The creek runs close to the sites and supports both cutthroat and rainbow trout, so anglers can fish right from the neighborhood before heading out on trails. The campground is roughly 14 miles north of Malad, Idaho, reached from Highway 191 via a maintained gravel forest road (Forest Road 041), and it receives snow in winter the site is open year-round but winter conditions can affect access. The area is threaded with multi-use routes: the 12-mile Summit Trail begins nearby and links to Farmers Canyon, East Elkhorn and Wright Creek trails, while Old Canyon and South Canyon trails start a short distance from the campground, making the location a strong base for hiking, horseback riding and off-highway vehicle riding in this part of Caribou-Targhee National Forest. The campground contains eight sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, plus a separate large group site that can hold up to 125 people. Each individual campsite is equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring and grill; the group site also provides large picnic tables, a serving table, a grill, a campfire ring with bench seating, tent pads and a gravel parking area. Vault toilets and drinking water are available on site, and roads and parking spurs within the campground are gravel. A host is on hand for security and the county sheriff conducts periodic patrols. No fee or reservation details are provided here, and hookups are not mentioned, so check the local Forest Service office or website for current fees, reservation policies and any winter access advisories before you go.
