Mink Creek Group Site sits about 12 miles south of Pocatello along the Bannock Highway, alongside Mink Creek in the Bannock Mountain Range. The single campground unit is a large, accessible group site that can accommodate up to 200 people and accepts both RVs and tents, making it a good choice for family reunions, large outings or small-event gatherings. A grove of ponderosa pines borders one side of the site and aspens and pines dot the surrounding slopes, providing partial shade and a change of color through the seasons. Birdwatchers will find a lively mix here expect to see Western Scrub-Jays, Juniper Titmice, Bushtits, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Mountain Bluebirds, Green-tailed and Spotted Towhees, and occasional Calliope Hummingbirds. For trail access, the West Fork Mink Creek Trail starts just outside the campground and is popular with hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders; Corral Creek Trail and Valve House Trail are also nearby. A short drive brings you to Cherry Springs Nature Area, where a named spring, a small stream for fishing and paved self-guided nature trails offer easy exploration, and the Mink Creek Nordic Center provides summer hiking and riding routes and groomed cross-country ski trails in winter. More broadly across Caribou-Targhee National Forest you'll find opportunities for biking, boating, hunting, OHV use, picnicking, swimming, winter sports and overnight stays in Forest Service cabins or lookouts. The site's infrastructure is built for groups: a 40 x 80-foot picnic pavilion on a concrete base anchors the site, with two electrical outlets, night lighting, 12 large picnic tables, two serving tables, a large fire ring and a broad paved parking area. There are two accessible vault toilets and four potable water hydrants on site; roads to the campground are paved, allowing easy access for RVs and cars. The area is secured by a locked entrance gate and monitored by campground hosts and periodic county sheriff patrols. Only one group site is available here, and it is a reservable site check-in is 2:00 p.m. on the day of your reservation and check-out is noon the following day. Firewood is not provided and may not be gathered on site; garbage service is not provided, so plan to pack out your trash. The group area is frequently used for outdoor weddings; if you plan to move any site furniture, call the District Office for approval at (208) 236-7500. For current fees, seasonal openings and reservation details, contact the Forest Service or the district office before your trip.
