“Love camping at West Overlook. There is direct access to the water and you can also walk to Linder Point where you can get on hiking trails. The only negative is that the showers must have some sort of water filter that makes the flow VERY weak, more like a dribble.”
“Very clean restrooms and site. People camping followed rules. Very pretty.”
“I love this campground. Always clean, sites arent to close, level spots are easy to get set up in. ”

Perched on the west side of the Coralville Lake dam in the Iowa River Valley, West Overlook Campground sits amid mixed hardwood forest and the wider Dam Complex just north of Iowa City. The loop contains 89 standard electric campsites each designated to accommodate both RVs and tents so whether you're towing a trailer or pitching a small tent you'll find a serviced spot. Modern restroom and shower buildings are on-site, and a dump station plus drinking water are located just outside the campground entrance. The adjacent West Overlook Day Use Area puts a sandy swimming beach, picnic sites and shelter, a playground and a sand volleyball court within easy walking distance of campsites; you'll also find a boat ramp at the campground for quick lake access and horseshoe pits nearby for evening games. Beyond the campground itself, the Coralville Lake project offers a wide range of outdoor pursuits. Anglers can chase largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, walleye and catfish; boaters and water-skiers launch from multiple ramps; and hikers and bikers can explore trails in the Dam Complex such as Squire Point, Woodpecker, Tailwater Riverwalk and the barrier-free Veterans Trail. Natural and cultural features include the Devonian Fossil Gorge just below the dam with 20 discovery points and a cell-phone audio tour and the nine-hole Turkey Creek Disc Golf Course tucked into mixed wooded and open terrain. Management, seasonal openings, fees and reservations can change from year to year, so plan to check the park's official campground reservation site or the managing agency's webpage before you go to confirm current policies and availability.
