FS ROAD 667 - SAN JUAN NF
Open in Google Maps ↗
East Fork Campground sits on a ridge above the East Fork of the San Juan River about 11 miles from Pagosa Springs, just off U.S. Highway 160 where the East Fork Road (Forest Road 667) turns uphill. The site is shaded by ponderosa pine and gambel oak at roughly 7,700 feet, and several of the 17 single-family campsites offer long views down to the river though the banks are a steep walk away via short, sharp trails. All 17 sites can accommodate both tents and RVs; there are a few level, pull-through spaces suited to larger rigs. Facilities are basic but functional: accessible vault toilets and a drinking water source are provided. The setting feels wooded and open at once, with enough level space for picnicking and camp setups but without the full hookups or developed campground infrastructure that larger parks provide. Recreation at East Fork centers on water and trail access: anglers can fish upstream from the campground, and trailheads for Coal Creek and Quartz Ridge lie 2 5 miles farther up at Sand Creek. A short ride or hike up East Fork Road reaches Silver Falls and a short trail to its base, a popular destination for mountain bikers; Treasure Falls is also only about five miles back toward Highway 160. Beyond the junction with Forest Road 684 the East Fork Road requires high-clearance or 4WD, and that upper corridor is frequented by off-road vehicle users bound for Elwood Pass. The campground uses Recreation.gov reservations and has specific cancellation and refund rules: cancellations made up to two days before arrival incur a $10 fee; cancelling the day before or on arrival triggers a $10 service fee and forfeiture of the first night's fee (one-night reservations forfeit the full amount); no-shows are assessed a $20 fee plus forfeiture of the first night's rate and taxes. Refund requests must be submitted within seven days after the reservation end date and will be returned to the original payment method (cash/check refunds are mailed as Treasury checks and may take 6 8 weeks); in the event of an emergency closure, all fees will be refunded.
