“Great camp site, tons of room and no traffic around. Bob, the camp host was very nice and it was very clean. The river was flowing and there was a great pool for the kids to play in. ”
“We loved it. We had a very small group but worth the group price. Our own private campground.”

Blanco River Group Campground sits on the banks of the Blanco River about 15 miles southeast of Pagosa Springs and is reached by following Highway 84 and then turning east onto Forest Road 656 for a short distance. The site is the campground's single reservable facility a group site made up of several individual campsites that must be reserved together and it's the only listed campsite at this location. The group area accommodates both tents and RVs, with four parking spurs sized for large rigs and plenty of grassy room for tent setups. Cottonwoods and ponderosa pines shade riparian benches and a few small meadows; the river is easily reached from camp and is lightly fished and stocked with trout, making it a handy spot for anglers. Practical facilities are straightforward: three picnic areas with large tables, vault toilets and potable drinking water. A volleyball court is on site but campers need to bring their own net and ball, and note that summer temperatures can be warm despite the shade. Beyond the riverbank, the campground functions as a convenient stopping point between Pagosa Springs and Chama, New Mexico, and as a base for exploring the roadless country to the east Navajo Peak and V-Rock trails can be accessed from nearby Buckles Lake Road, and Blanco Basin Road leads toward the Leche Creek Trail. The wider San Juan National Forest supports biking, hiking, horseback riding and camping, OHV routes, picnicking, wildlife viewing and winter sports, so you can combine a quiet group stay by the river with longer day trips in the forest. Because the site is a single group facility, reservations must be made for all component sites at once; if you cancel a group overnight reservation less than 14 days before arrival you'll be charged a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night's use fee. No-shows are assessed a $20 service fee and forfeit the first night's rate, taxes and applicable add-ons; staff will hold a reserved campsite only until check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days of your reservation's end date card refunds go back to the original card, while cash or check refunds are issued by Treasury check and can take several weeks. In the event of an emergency closure, fees are refunded in full.
