What guests say

“Great area - Should have posted Chambers Lake was drained. I went to fish!”

Greg F 3 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“This campground doesn't overcrowd the sites. Plenty of space to not have neighbors close by. Nice central location even though the lake level was low. Keep an eye on that if you want to stay here in the future. Otherwise really nice and we would stay again.”

jim w 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Went in late September so many nearby sites were empty which was nice. Campsite and restrooms were clean. However, noise from Highway 14 was loud and constant. Didn't realize how close Site 10 was to Hwy 14 when we booked. Otherwise a great stay.”

About

Chambers Lake Campground sits on the shore of Chambers Lake about 60 miles north of Fort Collins, reached by following Highway 287 to Ted's Place and then west on Highway 14 into the mountains. The campground envelopes a small, no-wake reservoir used for irrigation, so water levels fall over the summer and the boat ramp inside the campground can become unusable in late season. Anglers come for rainbow, cutthroat and lake trout, and paddlers will appreciate the quiet surface when the lake is full. Trail access is a strong draw here: the Blue Lake Trail No. 959 starts nearby and runs 7.2 miles into the Rawah Wilderness, and a network of other hiking and horseback trails provides routes toward the Neota and Comanche Peak wilderness areas. The broader Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests offer an array of recreation from biking, boating and fishing to winter sports and wildlife viewing so Chambers Lake makes a convenient base for multi-day outdoor plans. The campground contains a total of 50 sites: 43 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and 7 tent-only sites, with many sites built to be accessible. Each campsite includes a picnic table and a campfire ring; vault toilets and potable drinking water are available, and a small playground sits inside the loop. Because hazardous lodgepole pines were removed after a mountain pine beetle outbreak, some campsites now have reduced shade. The site's elevation is 9,200 feet, so conditions are distinctly high-country. For specifics about fees, reservations, seasonal openings and any current water-level or access advisories, call the facility at (801) 226-3564 before you go.
