Jacks Gulch Recreation Area sits about 48 miles northwest of Fort Collins along Highway 14, then a short turn south on Pingree Park Road, placing you in a mixed ponderosa pine and aspen landscape threaded with grassy meadows. A nature trail loops around the site and one stretch opens up toward the Mummy Range, so much of the activity here centers on short to moderate hikes, mountain biking and horseback rides right out of camp; birding and wildlife viewing are common from the trail and meadow edges. The campground is part of the larger Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests and the surrounding public lands support many other pursuits fishing, climbing, auto touring and winter sports among them but Jacks Gulch itself is best known for its trail access and equestrian-friendly layout. The official campsite count is three: one site configured to accommodate both RVs and tents (the accessible group site with electric hookups) and two equestrian sites. The group site is equipped to handle larger parties it can take up to 60 people, several vehicles and as many as nine RVs on hookups and includes ten 14-by-17-foot tent pads scattered through the area, a picnic shelter, plus two central cooking/picnic areas (each with four tables, a charcoal grill and a campfire ring). The two equestrian sites each provide four horse stalls, tent pads, picnic tables and campfire rings and can accommodate horse trailers; those equestrian sites do not have hookups. Basic services on site include vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection, and firewood that is dead-and-down may be gathered in the forest or purchased from the host. The site description also notes additional single-family campsites historically managed on a first-come, first-served basis, so plan accordingly and check current local information before you go.
