“Was clean and enjoyable. The only issue we had were the semis on the road using their Jake breaks at 2 AM but other than that everything was clean and well kept ”
“The actual site was the best campsite I've ever used. Great location. Everything was clean and things went well. The only issue is when I arrived someone else was trying to squat on my site. I had to tell them I reserved the site and they politely left.”

Ansel Watrous Campground sits on the banks of the Cache la Poudre River along Highway 14 northwest of Fort Collins, where stands of Ponderosa pine give way to a canyon mix of dense forest and open meadow beneath steep mountain slopes. The river is the defining feature here: sections nearby are used for whitewater rafting while quieter stretches hold brown, cutthroat and rainbow trout for anglers. Trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding weave through the surrounding landscape the 4-mile Young Gulch Trail is a local option for a half-day outing and birding and general wildlife viewing are common from the camp. The broader Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee NG offer a wide range of recreation beyond the campsite, including auto touring, climbing, horse camping and winter sports, so you can combine a river day with longer backcountry or scenic drives in the same visit. The campground itself is small and serviceable, with 17 total campsites: 13 sites set up for both RVs and tents and 4 tent-only sites. Each single-family site is accessible and comes with a 12-by-15 foot tent pad, a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill; vault toilets and drinking water are provided. You may gather dead-and-downed wood in the forest or buy firewood from the campground host. Reservations and changes are handled through the National Recreation Reservation Service note a $10 service fee applies to reservation changes or cancellations, and late cancellations may incur additional fees under NRRS policy.
