“Very nice campground with some fun trails near by. Only downside is the sites are pretty close together, but other than that it was awesome!”
“The facilities were clean. The campground was nearly empty midweek during our visit. We had a great family camping experience.”

YUBA RIVER RANGER DISTRICT

Wild Plum Campground sits on the banks of Haypress Creek in the North Yuba River area, a quiet pocket of hardwood and pine where early gold-dredging rocks still stud the forest floor. The site is managed by Tahoe National Forest and offers 47 campsites in total: 24 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and 23 tent-only sites, so party size and rig type are easy to match to a spot. Many sites have creek views and each campsite includes a picnic table and a campfire ring; vault toilets and drinking water are available on site. The campground is laid out in three loops two smaller loops with paved roads and parking spurs and a larger upper loop with gravel road spurs so you can choose a quieter, more rustic feel or easier vehicle access depending on where you park. Wild Plum is reached from Sierra City via Highway 49 and Wild Plum Road, a short few miles from town after crossing the Haypress Creek bridge. The campground is also a practical base for a wide range of activities. The 2.5-mile Wild Plum Loop Trail starts at the campground and is open to hikers and horse riders; it links to the Pacific Crest Trail and the Haypress Trail, giving access to longer mountain routes. Within a short drive are the historic buildings and visitor services of Sierra City, and farther into the basin you'll find Gold Lakes Basin and Sardine Lakes both offering boating, fishing (rainbow and brook trout are common), and swimming; Sardine Lakes Resort rents boats. The wider Tahoe National Forest around Wild Plum supports over 30 miles of maintained trails for hiking, mountain biking and singletrack riding, along with opportunities for gold panning, hunting, wildlife viewing, auto touring and OHV use in designated areas. Practical reservation notes: follow Tahoe National Forest policies for changes and cancellations, and be aware of the no-show rules where recorded a $20 no-show fee is charged and the first night's fee may be forfeited; if you need to change dates or campsites, there is generally no fee when changes keep original reservation dates or are within the same price class.
