Elizabeth D ★ 5 · Aug 2025You cant go wrong with this spot for a group. We had 30 people with plenty of room and a total blast. The lake access and group area is amazing.
Blair H ★ 5 · Sep 2023Great spot for large groups! Pretty good water access, although the hill is very steep to get down to the lake if the water level isn't totally full.

Moore Creek Campground sits along the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake and feels intimate by design: there is a single site that can accommodate either an RV or a tent, and the small footprint means you won't find a crowded loop just one partially shaded campsite with a paved parking spur, a raised tent pad, picnic table, metal fire ring, and a bear box for food storage. Basic comforts are on hand in the campground: vault toilets and potable drinking water. The location puts you close to water-based recreation Hirz Bay's public boat ramp is about four miles away and nearby lakefront resorts offer boat rentals and fuel so expect easy access to powerboating, non-motorized paddling, water skiing and shore fishing. Anglers will find a long list of target species in Shasta Lake, including trout, Chinook salmon, bass, sturgeon, crappie, catfish, bluegill and brown bullhead. While Moore Creek itself is focused on lakeside activity, the broader Shasta Trinity National Forest expands the options with hundreds of mountain lakes, thousands of miles of streams, hiking and auto-touring routes, horseback riding and winter-sports terrain if seasonal conditions permit. Getting here places you roughly 250 miles north of San Francisco along Interstate 5; drive through Sacramento and Redding and follow I-5 to the Gilman Road turnoff, then east toward the McCloud Arm to reach the campground entrance. Plan ahead for reservations and refunds: if you booked through Recreation.gov call 1-877-444-6777 to request a refund no later than 14 days before arrival for a full refund (Recreation.gov fees excluded).
