“The only problem was that the bear locker could not be locked, as the key was broken.”
“Perfect location close to the arm of the lake. Campground was well maintained. Found out after there are caves nearby that we plan to check out next time. Just an FYI the Ellery Creek sign off of Gilman Rd is missing so you can miss the turn into the campground. ”

Ellery Creek sits along the McCloud Arm of Lake Shasta on a series of terraces that put most lower sites and a number of the upper ones within easy view of the water. The campground has 19 sites total; each is listed as suitable for both RVs and tents and can accommodate small trailers while still offering fair to good privacy under deciduous trees. At higher lake levels boats can be moored on the shore within sight of camp, which makes Ellery Creek a frequent choice for boaters who want quick access to water-skiing, jet-skiing and swimming; a formal public ramp at Hirz Bay is about 4 miles away. Anglers will find Lake Shasta's varied fishery close at hand trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead and bass are all reported and the broader Shasta-Trinity National Forest offers multi-use recreation (auto touring, hiking, climbing, horseback riding, hunting, winter sports and more) if you want to leave the shoreline for a day. The lake itself sits at roughly 1,067 feet elevation with 365 miles of shoreline framed by manzanita and evergreens; on clear days Mount Shasta rises on the horizon, and wildlife is commonly sighted around camp. Practical comforts at Ellery Creek are straightforward: each site has a paved parking spur, a tent pad, a picnic table, a food locker, and a fire ring with grill, and there are two sets of vault toilets and water spigots scattered through the campground. There are no showers or electrical/water hookups, and no on-site store (the nearest supplies are about 21 miles away in Lakehead), so come prepared. Reservations made through Recreation.gov carry an additional non-refundable $10 reservation fee for online or call-center bookings; full refunds (minus Recreation.gov fees) must be requested at least 14 days before arrival via 1-877-444-6777, while cash or check refunds are processed through the forest office (call 530-275-8113) and take up to 30 days. Emergency closures may qualify you for alternate dates or refunds, but naturally occurring conditions such as low lake level, smoke or weather are not grounds for refund. To reach Ellery Creek from Redding, head to Gilman Road off I-5 and go east about 16 miles; the campground entrance is on the right between Moore Creek and Pine Point campgrounds (note that some map links default to the mail office rather than the campground entrance).
