“This campground was lovely, our site had a path to the creek behind it and neighboring campers were very nice. ”

HIGHWAY 41
Open in Google Maps ↗
Summerdale Campground sits in a wildflower-speckled meadow framed by fir, cottonwood and cedar, just off Highway 41 about 1.5 miles before the entrance to Yosemite National Park. The campground is in the Highway 41 Corridor of the Bass Lake Ranger District on the western slope of the central Sierra Nevada, an area noted for its middle-elevation forests and nearby giant sequoias. Big Creek runs alongside the loop and supports a local beaver population, and the site's cooler summer temperatures plus easy access to Yosemite make the area a busy summer destination. There are 32 campsites total; each site is set up to serve both tent campers and RVs, with a paved parking spur, picnic table, grill and metal campfire ring. Vault toilets are on site and water is provided; basic camping supplies can be purchased in the nearby town of Fish Camp. Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov, and note that once your reservation start date has begun neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify your reservation. Recreation at Summerdale ranges from on-site fishing to trail and motorized opportunities nearby. Big Creek is stocked with rainbow trout and offers anglers a quiet stretch to fish; beaver activity along the creek adds an element of wildlife watching. A few miles from camp are the Miami Motorcycle Trails Area for off-road riding and the Lewis Creek National Recreation Trail, a 3.7-mile route for day hikes. The wider Sierra National Forest offers additional hiking and opportunities related to fire lookouts and overnight cabin rentals. Day trips are straightforward: you can drive into Yosemite in minutes, take the logging train at Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, or visit Nelder Grove to walk among giant sequoias. Practical tips: arrive prepared with any specialty supplies from Fish Camp, expect basic facilities (water and vault toilets), and check Recreation.gov for current fees, seasonal availability and reservation details before you go.
