“Cottonshed Park is a hidden gem and I am glad we found it. Very nice, well kept park. And it was also very quiet. Enjoyed seeing the alligators in the lake. The only downside was the road going in to the park. Cottenshed Lane needs a lot of work. ”

Cottonshed Park sits on the south side of Millwood Lake about eight miles southwest of Mineral Springs and Tollette and offers a low, wooded lakeshore setting where most campsites look out over water or sit a short walk from it. The campground provides direct access to the Saline River via marked boat lanes that cut through the lake; outside those channels the shallow water holds submerged timber and aquatic vegetation that create some of the best fishing in the Millwood system and draw waterfowl hunters as well. Birders will find plenty to watch here: Millwood Lake supports more than 300 bird species, including American bald eagles and occasional great white pelicans that can appear in the Cottonshed area. Within the broader Millwood Lake recreation area you can also boat, fish, hike, picnic, launch water-sports, and take advantage of wildlife viewing opportunities and a playground/specialized sport site indicated for the lake's facilities. The campground contains a total of 44 campsites, and all 44 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites are equipped for a range of campers each site comes with a picnic table, grill, fire ring and a lantern pole, and many sites have direct lake views while others sit back in the dense timber of the flat lowlands. Utilities and comfort facilities are spread through the campground: flush toilets, showers and potable water, water hydrants at sites, 30/50 amp electricity, and one centrally located sewage dump station. Practical details such as current fees, reservation policies and seasonal availability change over time, so check the managing agency's website or contact the park before you go; the park is reached from Highway 355 via Bright Star Road and Cottonshed Lane, and Old Washington Historic State Park lies about 25 miles northeast if you want a nearby historic side trip.
