JEFFREY W ★ 5 · Aug 2025Host were very welcoming and helpful.
Julie D ★ 5 · Aug 2025Bathrooms are better than most found in other campgrounds. Although they were almost full, be prepared for windy conditions. Our campsite was a walk away from the parking space, not a drive-thru. Plenty of wildlife sightings: deer, pronghorn, coyotes, birds. The lake is very close and is beautiful. Great opportunity for stargazing.
Assaf W ★ 4 · Aug 2025The campground was overall clean, area beautiful. The bathrooms were the cleanest vault toilets I've been to, but then again, it's possible that the cold drove the bugs away. There were two stalls per bathroom (men's / women's), but the doors to the stalls couldn't be locked. The water pump was out of order (shut down due to water quality issues, we later learned), but there was no sign or information on the website saying there's no water. Luckily we had enough, but would have been a great inconvenience given how remote the place is. A sign was put on the pump itself only the next morning after we got to the campground. Campsite hosts recommended other campgrounds in the area with potable water. The campsite itself was rated for 8 people (2 cars), but there was only one small tent pad with room for a single 2-4 person tent. At least in our campsite there was enough flat ground to accommodate additional tents. Picnic table was in good condition, and the fire ring was nice in the cold evening and morning.

Perched just under 10,500 feet beside the Snowy Range Scenic Byway, Silver Lake Campground is the highest-elevation campground on the Brush Creek/Hayden Ranger District and serves as a straightforward jumping-off point for the Snowy Range's trails, lakes and glacial terrain. The site sits on Silver Lake a 17-acre, 25-foot-deep basin home to brook trout and features two trailheads that put you within easy reach of attractions such as Lake Marie Falls, Mirror Lake, the Medicine Bow Peak Trail, French Creek Canyon Trail and Miners Cabin Trail. The surrounding landscape moves quickly from sage and lodgepole pine lower down into spruce-fir and alpine habitats, so hikers, anglers and photographers will find everything from short day hikes to multi-day backpacking routes; in winter the area is used for snowshoeing and backcountry skiing. The Snowy Range Scenic Byway itself is a 29-mile paved route through high alpine country, and the campground is accessed from Highway 130, located southwest of Saratoga and west of Centennial along that byway. The campground has 17 sites (all configured to accommodate both tents and RVs) including three RV pull-throughs suitable for trailers under 32 feet, and each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring. Facilities are basic but functional: vault toilets, potable water, and trash receptacles are provided, and stay is limited to 14 days. Silver Lake is a self-service fee area the nightly charge is $10 per site, payable on-site with cash or check (make checks out to "USDA Forest Service") so plan to bring payment with you. Because the campground opens late June or early July depending on snow depth and sits at high elevation, expect sudden weather changes (frost, high winds and even summer snow are possible) and come prepared with layered clothing, sturdy shelter and a plan for shorter-season access.
