Brooklyn Lake Campground sits at about 10,500 feet on the shore of a small, calm 36-acre lake eight miles northwest of Centennial and roughly 40 miles west of Laramie along Wyoming Highway 130, then a short drive on Forest Road 317. Pine forest and open high-country grassland frame the water and give clear sightlines to Browns Peak on the skyline. The lake is managed for non-motorized use only carry-down canoes and small boats work well on the quiet water but there is no boat ramp and trailered vessels are not permitted. Anglers will find brook trout in the lake, and trails depart from the campground to Sheep Lake and Lost Lake (Sheep Lake Trail is also open to horseback riders). Wildlife is common in the surrounding Medicine Bow-Routt landscape; visitors should expect to see elk and mule deer and be aware that species such as moose, black bear, coyote and bobcat also inhabit the area. Because elevation exceeds 10,000 feet, conditions can change quickly: frost, high winds or late snow are possible even in summer, so plan clothing and gear accordingly. The campground offers 19 sites all configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and five of those are pull-through sites suited for longer rigs or trailers. Each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring; there are two vault toilets on site, trash collection, and two hand-pump water sources that are typically available from July through September but can be affected by weather, maintenance or testing, so bring your own water or verify availability before arriving. There are no electrical, potable water hookups, or sewage dump stations at Brooklyn Lake. For fees, reservation options, current road or trail conditions, and seasonal updates, check the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest website or call the ranger district before you go; the broader national forest and adjacent Thunder Basin grassland offer nearly 2.9 million acres of additional hiking, biking, camping, fishing, hunting and winter recreation if you want to extend your trip.
