About

Namekagon Campground sits along the shore of the 3,227-acre Namekagon Lake at the headwaters of the Namekagon River, surrounded by a mixed hardwood and hemlock forest in northwestern Wisconsin. The lakeshore location makes this a strong choice for paddlers and powerboaters alike: you can launch a canoe or kayak from the campground, jump in for a swim off the sandy beach, or boat to several shoreline restaurants. Anglers will find healthy populations of musky, northern pike, walleye and bass, and there are fishing piers and a boat ramp right at the day-use area. For land-based outings, the Namekagon Nature Trail a one-mile interpretive loop that begins in the campground and nearby mountain bike and hiking routes, including easy access to the North Country National Scenic Trail, make the site a practical base for exploring the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest's miles of trails and motorized routes. The campground offers 21 single-family sites that accept both tents and RVs, each equipped with a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill. Visitors will find accessible vault toilets, drinking water, and trash and recycling receptacles on site; the day-use area adds picnic shelters, additional tables, a basketball court, boat ramp and fishing piers. Because specific fees, reservation windows and seasonal openings can change, plan to check the Forest Service website or contact the Chequamegon-Nicolet office for current fee schedules and reservation policies before you go. Access is via Forest Service Road 209 off the county network east of Cable, Wisconsin, making Namekagon an easy drive from town while still offering a quiet, family-oriented lakeside camping experience.
