“Decent campsites which are well-maintained. Three stars because it is very close to the highway -- you can hear traffic 24/7”

About

Tinkham Campground sits along the South Fork Snoqualmie River inside Mt. Baker Snoqualmie National Forest, shaded by a high canopy of Douglas fir, western hemlock and cedar that keeps sites cool in summer. The campground contains 46 total campsites: 43 sites are set up for both RVs and tents, and 3 are tent-only; all are single-family sites and a few are accessible. Each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill; vault toilets and a potable water source are available but there are no electrical hookups or showers, so RV campers should plan for dry camping. On a clear day the ridgeline views include Mt. Baker, the 10,781-foot volcano whose summit area (Grant Peak) is largely a 1,300-foot-deep ice mound; Mount Rainier is also roughly an hour away by car. The campground is easy to reach from the Seattle area located just off I-90 near Exit 42 and a short drive south along the river making it a convenient base for North Cascades outings. The site provides direct access to classic Cascade recreation: short family hikes, fishing along the river, and summer/early-fall horseback riding are common from Tinkham, while winter brings opportunities for skiing and snowshoeing nearby. A half-mile, family-friendly Tinkham Discovery Trail winds through moss-covered fallen trees to a small pond where kids can explore insects, wildflowers and fungi; several other trailheads lie within a short drive. Wildlife in the area ranges from mountain goats at higher elevations to coyotes and pine martens in the forest, with migratory birds and native fish using the river corridor. The broader Mt. Baker Snoqualmie Forest supports a wide variety of activities auto touring, biking, boating, fire lookout stays, interpretive programs, off-highway vehicle routes, horse camping, and winter sports among them and the campground is a solid jumping-off point for those pursuits. For reservations and specific seasonal openings, check Recreation.gov (note that once your reservation start date has begun neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify your reservation) or call the facility at (360) 386-8214 for facility-specific information.
