“Was great! Only not the best way to wash the dishes. Thank you!”
“the campground is magnificent! espcially in the fall... it is very near the road so you hear a bit of traffic and the water are not for drinking”

Raccoon Branch Campground sits at about 2,880 feet on the lower slopes of Dickey Knob, arranged around a large grassy clearing framed by pines, hardwoods and rhododendron. The campground has 17 individual sites, each designed to accommodate both tents and RVs, and five of those sites include electric hookups; paved roads and paved spurs make access straightforward for trailers and tow vehicles, and a dump station is available on site. Basic conveniences include flush toilets and drinking water, but there are no showers, so plan accordingly. A volunteer host is on hand to greet visitors and answer questions. From many sites you can hear or reach small mountain streams Dickey Creek and the Raccoon Branch providing spots for wading and fishing and direct hiking access to trails that climb through surrounding forest. The campground is part of the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area within the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest, and it functions well as a quiet base for exploring nearby high-country trails. The Dickey Knob Trail leads through designated Wilderness to the knob's summit for broad views over Sugar Grove and Rye Valley, and longer treks can connect you with the Appalachian Trail. Day-trip options in the region include the Virginia Creeper Trail, Hungry Mother State Park and Grayson Highlands State Park. More widely, the national forest supports a range of outdoor pursuits auto touring, biking, boating, climbing, fishing, horseback riding, hunting, interpretive programs, OHV use in designated areas, picnicking, swimming, visitor centers and wildlife viewing so check the Forest Service website or local office for seasonal access, current fees and reservation rules before you go. Raccoon Branch is roughly 11 miles from Interstate 81; drivers typically reach it by following Route 16 south from Marion for about 13 miles to the campground entrance on the right.
