Hussy Mountain Horse Camp is a primitive, nonelectric horse camp on CC Camp Road about 18 miles south of Wytheville, VA, set in the east fork of the Dry Run Valley. The facility is organized around group loops each loop provides parking for four or five vehicles with trailers, wooden picnic tables, metal fire rings, hitching rails, and garbage containers and the Forest Service lists four total campsites: two that function as both RV and tent sites and two designated equestrian sites. There is potable water on-site and Vaught (vault) toilets in each loop, but no hookups or electrical service; all sites are strictly first-come, first-served, and you must physically arrive at the campground to purchase and claim a site. Horse owners should bring a current negative Coggins test certificate, as Virginia requires proof for any horse used for public recreation, and East Fork Dry Run Creek runs adjacent to the campground to provide additional water for stock. The setting is heavily shaded by hardwoods, hemlocks, and pines at roughly 3,000 feet elevation, with summer daytime highs typically in the upper 70s to low 90s and cooler evenings in the 60s. Hussy Mountain gives direct access to several horse and hiking routes East Fork Divide Trail (4617), Dry Run Gap Trail (4613), and Highlands Horse Trail (337) and Dry Run itself offers opportunities for fishing, wading, and watering horses. While the campground is tailored to equestrian use, it sits inside the larger George Washington & Jefferson National Forest where visitors can also pursue hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, and other outdoor activities; for facility-specific questions call the Forest Service at (276) 783-5196.
