“Had a great stay in Fruita. Nice bike ride and great weather. ”
“This campground is absolutely beautiful. Site 11 is right across the street from the bathroom, which was very clean. Camp hosts were kind and helpful. We woke up to the sun on the top of the rock face and the deer grazing nearby. Will hopefully be returning soon! ”

Fruita Campground sits about a mile south of the Capitol Reef Visitor Center in the Fruita Historic District, a semi-shaded, grassy patch along the Fremont River that feels markedly cooler and greener than the surrounding redrock slopes of the Waterpocket Fold. The developed campground contains 66 sites arranged in three loops Loop A has 13 sites, Loop B 32, and Loop C 21 and is laid out to accommodate a mix of rigs and tents: 59 sites accept both RVs and tents while 7 are tent-only. Most sites include a picnic table and fire ring (sites 7, 48 and 50 have only an above-ground grill), and accessible sites 14, 24 and 63 are located next to restrooms and provide electrical hookups strictly for required medical devices. There are no individual water or sewage hookups at campsites; an RV dump and potable water fill station sit near the entrance to Loops A and B. Restrooms have running water and flush toilets but no showers. Beginning August 1, 2023, generators are allowed only in Loop C, and during the park's busy season there are no first-come, first-served sites many sites are reservable from March 1 through October 31. For maps, current availability and fee or reservation information, consult the park's campground page (https://www.nps.gov/care/planyourvisit/fruitacampground.htm) or call (435) 425-3791. The campground's location makes it a practical base for the park's variety of outdoor experiences. From Fruita you can walk to the Gifford House and the orchards about 3,100 trees planted with cherries, apricots, peaches, pears, apples, plums, mulberries, almonds and walnuts pick fruit in season, or stroll short interpretive routes such as the Capitol Gorge Trail and the Goosenecks Trail. Longer day hikes to Cohab Canyon, Chimney Rock and Cassidy Arch begin within easy driving distance, and the Scenic Drive along Highway 24 follows the western faces of the Waterpocket Fold and gives access to Grand Wash and Capitol Gorge. The visitor center and Ripple Rock Nature Center run talks and family programs on geology, Fremont culture and evening stargazing; nearby amenities also include picnic areas, an amphitheater and a group site. Activities accessible from the campground and park roads include auto touring, biking, climbing, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, picnicking, wildlife viewing and exploring historic and cultural sites plan daily outings from camp and return each night to a sheltered, tree-lined site beside the river.
