Douglas J ★ 5 · Sep 2025The drive is a bit of a white knuckle adventure with steep drops and no guard rails, but well worth the trip. Beautiful aspen grove by the lake. Saw many deer and a fox in the campground as well as a bugling elk. Campground was crowded but sites are far enough apart with lots of trees. Hard to believe it was that close to Moab.
Dianne G ★ 2 · Sep 2025The information did not say it was a narrow road not suitable for a truck pulling a camper. I wish we would have known how narrow the road was and how high we would be going up the mountain. Looked on maps and could not find Warner Lake. We had no idea we would be on such a narrow road. Don’t know if the other road had been open, if the road would have been better.
Sanne D ★ 4 · Aug 2025We've received the lock combination by email, which is great 👍. Unfortunately we didn't have electricity or running water in the cabin 😕. We did pay for that. But the location is breathtaking 😍. Wherever we looked, there were deer everywhere. So close by! They weren't even afraid of us. The sunset was magical. We would have loved to stay one more day actually, but we only made reservations for one night. Cabin was clean and comfortable enough.

Warner Lake Campground sits high in the La Sal Mountains at about 9,400 feet, with campsites tucked among a dense stand of aspens that give partial shade in summer and strong, colorful foliage in autumn. The lake itself is small but accessible from short foot-trails off site, and a handful of campsites and the cabin porch offer views toward the sheer rise of Haystack Mountain (11,634 feet). On-water recreation centers on rainbow trout fishing and small-craft paddling canoes and kayaks are common here and a trailhead inside the campground connects you to an extensive network of hiking routes: the Trans-Mountain, Miners Basin, Warner Lake Oowah Lake, Burro Pass and Dry Fork Beaver Basin trails. If you want a roof over your head, the two-room rustic cabin sleeps four on two bunk beds (mattresses provided, linens are not) and has a propane stove/oven, basic kitchenware, solar lighting, table and chairs, and patio furniture; a picnic table, campfire ring and a vault toilet sit just outside the cabin door. Practical details are straightforward: the site has a total of 21 campsites 19 that accommodate both RVs and tents, one glamping site, and one tent-only site plus a group site that can hold up to 50 people and several single-family sites. Each site has a picnic table, campfire ring and utility table; roads and parking spurs are gravel and vault toilets are provided. There is a 14-day stay limit. Access from Moab requires attention in 2024 25 because of road construction: you can reach Warner Lake by a longer paved route or by a shorter but rough dirt route (which is passable in many 2WD vehicles but where higher clearance or 4WD is recommended), and the fastest option from Moab generally takes about an hour on the mountain loop roads; be cautious with GPS or navigation apps as some direct drivers onto closed or 4WD-only roads. For up-to-date information on fees, reservations and road conditions call the Forest Service at (435) 259-7155. Nearby Moab is under 30 miles away and provides groceries, gas, outfitters and dining, and both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks are feasible day trips from Warner Lake.
