At 8,300 feet on the east side of the Salt Lake Valley, Redman Campground sits in Big Cottonwood Canyon beneath a canopy of spruce and pine, where summer wildflowers and bright fall leaves give the area strong seasonal character. The site offers 41 total campsites all 41 accommodate both RVs and tents arranged as 28 single sites (capacity 8 people) and 10 double sites (capacity 16 people), plus one triple family site (capacity 24). There are also two group sites: Group Site #28 (capacity 35) and Group Site #24 (capacity 50). Every campsite has a picnic table and a campfire ring; the campground provides flush toilets and drinking water, and firewood can be purchased from the host. Note that roads and parking spurs are dirt, and extra vehicles are charged $10 each. Fees are collected by cash, check, or Scan & Pay; the single sites are $31.00, double sites $63.00, the triple site $90.00, Group Site #28 $194.00 and Group Site #24 $228.00. Redman is a practical base for trail access and creek fishing: the Donut Falls Trailhead begins nearby and many other hiking and mountain biking routes thread the canyon, while fly-fishers often cast on Big Cottonwood Creek. Rock climbers will find routes in the vicinity, and Solitude Mountain Resort lies about a half mile up-canyon with chairlift rides, hiking, a few dining options and an 18-hole disc golf course; Silver Lake is another mile past Solitude and offers an easy loop trail plus canoeing and fishing. Because Redman sits within Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, a wide range of regional recreation from auto touring and wildlife viewing to horseback riding, off-highway vehicle use, boating and swimming at appropriate sites is accessible from this corridor. Be aware of the reservation and cancellation policies: a $10 service fee applies to most changes or cancellations, late cancellations can forfeit the first night's fee for individual sites, no-shows may incur a $20 service fee and use-fee forfeiture, and refund requests must be made within 14 days after scheduled departure; reservation transactions will appear on credit card statements as "Recreation.gov 877-444-6777."
