“Extremely clean sites, sadly the water level was low, but that's not the campsites fault. The park host was very attentive of the visitor and made daily rounds to check on folks. The bathroom were clean and usable. I would recommend Union Grove as a site to visit”
“Beautiful campground and friendly and helpful staff.”
“Sites unlevel unless you back in as far as you can. No shade. Huge site with amazing views and space between sites. Cleanest athrooms we have seen at a COE. Camp host friendly and informative.”

Union Grove sits on the southwest shore of Stillhouse Hollow Lake, about five miles west of Salado along FM 2484, and feels like a working lakefront rather than a manicured park. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers created the 6,430-acre reservoir in 1968; its 58 miles of shoreline are mostly undeveloped, with rocky beaches, sandy bluffs and tree-lined coves broken by stretches of open, rolling hills. Most campsites at Union Grove offer a view of the water some are right on the shoreline and the lake's clear, deep water supports largemouth and smallmouth bass as well as channel catfish. Birdwatchers can expect hawks, Great Blue herons, ducks, geese, songbirds, bobwhite quail, Rio Grande turkey and the occasional bald eagle. Within a short drive are the Village of Salado (galleries, golf and shops), the historic Stage Coach Inn, and Chalk Ridge Falls Environmental Learning Center below the dam, where about five miles of trails include a one-mile nature trail along the Lampasas River, a spring-fed creek, a waterfall and multiple wildlife viewing points; Fort Hood and its military-related points of interest are also nearby for those who want to explore regional history. For camping logistics, Union Grove provides a total of 38 campsites: 28 sites configured for both RVs and tents and 10 tent-only sites. Many sites have water and electric hookups, and the park also offers three screened shelters for visitors who arrive without camping gear. On-site amenities include restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, a swimming beach, a fishing dock, a playground and a four-lane boat ramp rentals for kayaks, canoes and motorboats are available nearby for those who don't bring their own. The broader lake supports a wide range of activities: boating, fishing, hiking, water sports, picnicking and wildlife viewing, plus large group pavilions and other concession services at park locations. Union Grove is one of only two reservable campgrounds on Stillhouse Hollow Lake, so plan and reserve ahead; check the Army Corps or park reservation system for current fees, seasonal openings and any access notices before you go.
