“Cleanness,Shaded area, good administration staff and close to our home”
“We hosted our family reunion over Father’s Day weekend. Everyone had the BEST time. Dana Peak is very well maintained and the Pavilion made it easy to meet for meals. Not to mention the Park Rangers are friendly and accommodating. 👍 Highly Recommended 👍”
“The pavilion was great! The area was just what we needed. Having the bathrooms and water close by was an awesome bonus!”

Dana Peak Campground sits on a low peninsula along the clear, deep water of Stillhouse Hollow Lake, where grassy, mostly open campsites press close to the shoreline and the rest of the lake remains largely undeveloped with rocky beaches and sandy bluffs. The campground offers 31 sites in all: 17 sites equipped for both RVs and tents with electric hookups, and 14 tent sites; some tent pitches are primitive and include a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill. Amenities at the site-level are straightforward and useful for multi-night stays there are restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, a swimming beach, multiple picnic spots and playground space, plus a four-lane boat ramp for easy launch. A group shelter that accommodates up to 80 people can be reserved for gatherings, and because Dana Peak is one of only two reservable campgrounds on Stillhouse Hollow Lake, weekends in summer often sell out, so make reservations early and check the Corps of Engineers or park website for current fees and seasonal notices. The peninsula setting makes Dana Peak a hub for water- and trail-based activities: boating, water sports and fishing are chief draws (the lake supports largemouth and smallmouth bass as well as channel catfish), and non-motorized rentals such as canoes and kayaks are available nearby for visitors without their own craft. Just outside the campground entrance the Dana Peak Trails open for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding; birders will note hawks, Great Blue herons, ducks, geese, songbirds, bobwhite quail, Rio Grande turkey and the occasional bald eagle. For a change of pace, Chalk Ridge Falls Environmental Learning Center sits below the dam a short drive away, with about five miles of trails, a spring-fed creek and a waterfall along the Lampasas River, and the Village of Salado with galleries, golf and the historic Stage Coach Inn is close enough for a day trip. The park lies west of Belton along Highway 190 near Comanche Gap Road and is also within easy reach of points of interest around Fort Hood; bring lake-appropriate gear, a shade solution for the largely open campsites, and a reservation in summer.
