Cedron Creek Campground sits on the main channel of the Brazos River where it widens into Whitney Lake, set among rolling hills dotted with cedar, live oak and post oak. The campground contains 58 sites in total: 57 sites set up for both RVs and tents and one tent-only site. Most sites offer 30-amp electric and water hookups, while 10 sites provide 50-amp service; every campsite includes either a stand-up cooker or a ground cooker/fire ring. Practical facilities are straightforward and family-friendly three restroom buildings with showers, a trailer dump station, a boat ramp for easy lake access, horseshoe pits, and a playground. A group camp area sits close to the water (within about 100 yards of a large restroom and showers) and includes a pavilion that accommodates roughly 100 people with eight 8-foot tables, lighting, electricity, a large 3' x 3' grill, and eight adjacent campsites. The lake is where most daytime activity happens: boating, canoeing and kayaking from the ramp; swimming in designated areas; and fishing for bass, crappie and catfish. Land-based options are plentiful too the nearby 12.5-mile Hopewell Trail accepts hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders, and links north to Kimball Bend Park or south to Lakeside Village and Powelldale Mountain; equestrian riders can also explore the McCown Valley Equestrian Area or use the equestrian camping at Plowman Creek Park. For practical matters like current fees, reservation windows, seasonal closures and any required permits, check with the park's managing agency before you go; access to Cedron Creek is reached from Whitney (a short drive west of Hillsboro), crossing the lake on FM 1713, with the campground entrance immediately after the bridge.
