Lofers Bend East sits along the shoreline of Whitney Lake, reached via Highway 22 about 19 miles west of Hillsboro and a short drive past the town of Whitney near the dam. The campground offers 67 sites in total: 61 that accommodate both RVs and tents and six tent-only sites. Most of the RV-capable sites provide water and 30-amp electric service, and every campsite includes either a stand-up barbecue grill or a ground cooker/fire ring. Practical facilities are solid and straightforward flush toilets and coin-free showers, drinking water, a trailer dump station, a pair of boat ramps for easy lake access, and a playground making it a convenient base whether you arrive in a tow vehicle or with paddles and life jackets. The lake and surrounding hills shape the experience here: cedars, live oak and post oak dot rolling terrain where deer are commonly seen at dawn and dusk. Whitney Lake supports a full slate of water recreation boating, fishing for bass, crappie and catfish, swimming, canoeing, kayaking and other water sports while trails and park roads invite biking, hiking and wildlife viewing. Equestrian users have additional options in the broader Whitney Lake system, including the 12.5-mile Hopewell Trail and the McCown Valley equestrian area, with overnight horse camping at nearby Plowman Creek Park.
