“Several sites right along the river with lots and lots of tree cover. Water spigots all around. Restroom was clean and well stocked. Hosts were very friendly. A fair amount of road traffic noise though. I was hoping for some firewood but they were out. ”

Tyee Campground sits on the banks of the Umpqua River in a broad canyon of forested slopes, roughly midway between the Pacific Coast and Roseburg. The site's river access is the main draw anglers will find seasonal runs of chinook and coho salmon, steelhead and bass to try for and the low, wooded campsites offer a close-to-water base for paddling, boating, or just sitting by the current. The campground is compact: there are 15 total campsites (site type breakdown: 15 YES) arranged in two developed areas, and both areas are reservation-only until further notice; the nightly fee is $14. Facilities are straightforward and useful for river-focused trips: multiple spigots for drinking water, restrooms, horseshoe pits, an emergency phone, and a reservable Tyee Pavilion with six large picnic tables, a long serving counter, sink, electrical outlets and a large barbecue grill (search for Tyee Pavilion at recreation.gov to reserve). If you're exploring beyond camp, the Umpqua River Scenic Byway runs nearby, and the small towns along it Elkton with its wineries and butterfly pavilion, plus the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area to the west make good day trips; the ocean is roughly 50 miles farther west. Tyee's mix of river access and simple campground amenities makes it particularly appealing to anglers and water-sport enthusiasts who want a practical home base rather than a large developed park. For location, think of it as about 12 miles west of Sutherlin on Highway 138 near the Bullock Bridge/County Road 57 corridor, a convenient stop for those traveling between I-5 and the coast.
