East Shore Campground sits on the eastern edge of Loon Lake in the Coast Mountain Range of southwestern Oregon, surrounded by stands of Douglas fir, western hemlock and western red cedar. The campground is very small just two campsites in total and both are configured to accommodate either RVs or tents, so expect an intimate experience rather than a large developed park. Paved roads and vehicle parking lead into the loop, and each site includes a picnic table and a metal fire ring; restrooms are vault toilets and no potable water is provided, so bring your own supply. The site footprint is compact but practical, and at least one accessible campsite is noted among the original site descriptions; because the location is unstaffed, for any accessibility questions or other details you can call the Umpqua Field Office at (541) 756-0100. Across the road a small day-use area gives direct access to Loon Lake, a 260-acre body of water about two miles long and 190 feet deep; campers at East Shore may use that day-use area without paying an additional day-use fee. The lake and its shoreline offer straightforward opportunities for fishing, swimming and picnicking, while the regional setting puts you within reach of Reedsport (roughly 20 miles away), the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area and the coast near Winchester Bay in under an hour's drive. To get there from the I-5 corridor, follow OR-38 west from Cottage Grove toward Loon Lake Road; from US-101 in Reedsport, take OR-38 east the turn onto Loon Lake Road drops you into the recreation area, and East Shore Campground lies about eight miles down that road on the left, roughly a mile east of the larger Loon Lake Campground.
