At 7,100 feet, Anthony Lake Campground sits on a rocky bluff among mixed conifers and boulders, which helps keep the sites cool on hot summer days. The main campground on the east side of Anthony Lake offers 41 campsites in total: 26 sites configured for both RVs and tents, 13 tent-only sites, and 2 glamping sites; every site includes a paved parking apron, a tent pad, picnic table and a campfire ring with grill. You won't find lakeside pitches none of the sites offer direct lake views but many spots frame Gunsight Mountain and the jagged summits of the Elkhorn range. Drinking water is available in peak season, vault toilets are on site, and a couple of handicap-accessible sites are provided for visitors with mobility needs. For on-the-water access there's a boat ramp at the campground, making it straightforward to launch a canoe, kayak or small boat for trout fishing. The campground is inside the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in the Southern Elkhorn Mountain/Powder River Basin, an area of conifer forests, wildflower meadows and resident mountain goats, with the Elkhorn Crest rising to 9,108 feet nearby. Trails that begin or connect close to Anthony Lake include the long Elkhorn Crest Trail (22.6 miles, foot and equestrian) and shorter local routes such as the 1-mile Black Lake and Shoreline trails. The Elkhorn Scenic Byway a 106-mile route through old mining towns and a profusion of lakes and rivers is within easy driving distance for day trips. Practicalities: payment in full is charged to your credit card when you complete a reservation, a $10 service fee applies if you change or cancel a booking (late cancellations may incur additional fees), and a $10 non-refundable online reservation fee may be charged for some facilities (see the NRRS Reservation Policy for full details).
