“Nice location, very good tent sites. And a lake with both trout and bass. ”
“Very friendly host. Smaller site fit a tent and a canopy and two cars though! Lots of privacy. No trees to hang hammocks. ”

Alder Dune Campground sits in the coastal forests of the Siuslaw National Forest between Alder and Dune Lakes, offering a quiet, shaded setting of Douglas firs that stands alongside open sand dunes and freshwater lakes. The campground contains 39 sites in total: 38 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site. Campsites are set with generous native shrubbery between them for privacy, and the northern loop of the campground runs along Alder Lake while the day-use area is closest to Dune Lake. Practical amenities are straightforward and campground-focused paved roads, pit toilets, and drinking water are provided and the overall layout and vegetation keep the campground feeling more like a low-noise forest retreat than a developed RV park. Alder Dune is managed by the Central Coast Ranger District; the campground lies roughly 6 miles north of Florence on Highway 101, on the west side of the highway. Recreation at Alder Dune centers on the lakes and the trail network that links them to the coast. Alder and Dune Lakes are stocked with rainbow trout several times a year, making the lakes a dependable spot for anglers, and the day-use area and shorelines are good places for wildlife viewing and relaxed picnics. A trail from the day-use area circles Alder Lake and climbs over the adjacent dunes on an easy-to-moderate route that connects to the Sutton Trail and leads out to a nearby Pacific Coast beach; Heceta Beach is also a short drive away for ocean access. More extensive recreation opportunities biking, boating, horseback riding, OHV routes, and interpretive programs are available elsewhere in the Siuslaw National Forest, so check with the Central Coast Ranger District for current conditions, fees, reservation rules, and seasonal closures before you go.
