“Beautiful rain forest with trails. Well maintained and well loved by the locals I met who come here periodically each year. It’s just one of those places.”
“beautiful campsite, felt more secluded than it was which was incredible. thank you!”
“The falls, while not high or majestic, are beautiful, and the area in general is great to hike and enjoy. The campground is clean and well maintained, but the no fire rule diminished the experience. ”

Alsea Falls Recreation Site sits in the Oregon Coast Range along the South Fork Alsea National Back Country Byway, about 13 miles west of Monroe in Benton County. The South Fork Alsea River runs through the site and drops about 30 feet at the day-use area to form Alsea Falls, a compact but photogenic cascade framed by vine maple and young Douglas fir; older Douglas fir and western red cedar stand on the nearby ridges. Trails wander out from the picnic grounds into mixed-age forest, offering a cool riverside refuge on hot days and access to longer routes used by hikers and mountain bikers. In winter the river is a noted stretch for salmon and steelhead fishing check current Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife regulations before you go while nearby recreation features include the Fall Creek trail network (more than 12 miles of mountain-bike-specific trails that hikers can use), Green Peak Falls (a 45-foot drop reached via McBee Park), and the Alsea Trout Hatchery a short drive north of the town of Alsea. The campground has 21 sites in total: 16 that accommodate both RVs and tents and five that are tent-only, and several of the RV/tent sites fit trailers or rigs up to about 32 feet. Camping is seasonal open from the first weekend in May through the end of September while day use is available year-round. Reservations and payments are handled through Recreation.gov (you can reserve ahead or, if a site is unreserved for the night, pay on arrival using the Recreation.gov mobile app), but be sure to download the app before you reach the drainage because there is no cell reception. Basic amenities include drinking water and vault toilets; the area has limited staffing, and the BLM advises callers to use (503) 375-5646 for general information. Standard non-refundable fees apply: campsite rates of $15, $20, and $40 include one vehicle per site, extra camping vehicles are $5 each (collected at the site), and payment by cash or check payable to the Bureau of Land Management is accepted display the fee envelope receipt on your dash.
