Ladybird Landing Campground sits along the sandy beaches and forested hills of Eufaula Lake, a 102,000-acre reservoir on the Canadian River that stretches over 600 miles of shoreline. The dam, completed in 1964 and dedicated by President Lyndon B. Johnson, created a shoreline that alternates between broad sand beaches and rocky bluffs; the surrounding oak-covered hills put on a vivid display of color in the fall. The lake is a serious draw for anglers crappie, sand bass, catfish and black bass reach notable sizes in the lake and striped bass well over 40 pounds have been taken below the dam and boating is a mainstay here. From the campground you have direct water access via an on-site boat ramp and a nearby marina, and the area supports a long list of outdoor pursuits beyond fishing and boating, including hiking, horseback riding, OHV routes, water sports, wildlife viewing and environmental education opportunities at lake and state park sites nearby. At the campground itself there are 59 total campsites: 52 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and 7 tent-only sites, laid out along the lakeshore so many sites are within a short walk of the water. Facilities on site include a playground and a large group picnic shelter that can be reserved, plus the boat ramp for launching; a marina close by provides additional services. Trails thread the hills and shoreline for day hikes, and neighboring state parks offer complementary amenities such as golf courses, swimming pools and more developed trail systems. For supplies, dining and a change of pace, the historic town of Eufaula and the nearby towns of McAlester and Krebs are within easy driving distance on regional roads; from Porum, the campground is reached by heading west on Highway 71 for about eight miles and following local signs to the lake.
