“Very clean bathrooms w/ shower! Great spot right by the lake and a bit secluded so you don't have to worry about other campers bothering you. One of the volunteers came by to check on us at night time. Super friendly guy! Definitely will be camping there again!”

Gentry Creek Campground sits on the sandy beaches and low bluffs of Eufaula Lake's shoreline, roughly nine miles west of Checotah along Highway 266 and reached by following campground signs. The site is small and shoreline-focused: there are 37 campsites in all, 33 of which are set up to accommodate both RVs and tents while four are tent-only, and many lots are spread so you're rarely crowded into a single row of sites. A campground boat ramp gives direct access to the water for launching boats and kayaks, and short trails thread the surrounding green hills and shoreline for hikers who want to stretch their legs without driving elsewhere. Practical details such as daily fees, reservation windows, hookup availability, and seasonal closures aren't listed here, so plan to check the official park website or contact the managing office before you go to confirm current policies and book a site. The recreation possibilities radiate outward from the lake itself. Eufaula is the largest lake entirely inside Oklahoma about 102,000 surface acres with more than 600 miles of shoreline and is known for a strong fishery: crappie, sand bass, catfish and black bass grow to notable sizes in the main lake, and anglers below the dam have landed striped bass topping 40 pounds. In-campground boating and paddling are easy thanks to the ramp; beyond that you'll find opportunities for water sports, fishing, wildlife viewing and horseback riding around the lake, plus organized concessions and environmental-education programs in the area. If you want to mix in a town visit, the historic town of Eufaula is nearby with antique shops and restaurants, and McAlester and Krebs (noted for Italian dining) are within easy reach; Robbers Cave State Park and two state parks on Eufaula Lake offer additional amenities such as golf, swimming pools and longer hiking routes, while autumn brings a vivid display of fall color to the surrounding hills.
