“Same as it ever was. I like the campground. Few folks, good wildlife, peace and quiet. Just enough amenities to be a cut above dispersed camping on BLM land. ”
“Beautiful campgrounds for relaxing and fishing.”

Potato Hills South sits right on the shoreline of Sardis Lake in southeastern Oklahoma, where the reservoir's 14,360 acres and 117 miles of shoreline open up a long list of water-based options. The campground is set in the foothills at the western tip of the Ouachita Mountains, so views move from wooded ridges down to broad stretches of water fed by Jackfork Creek. Boating and water sports are primary draws here boat ramps serve the lake and anglers come specifically for bass (Sardis is known for producing some of the state's largest), along with crappie, catfish and walleye. Trails and hiking opportunities spill into the nearby Ouachitas, and hunters or wildlife viewers can explore more than 8,000 acres of public hunting and wildlife propagation areas bordering the lake. Picnic shelters, a playground and open lawn areas make the spot practical for family gatherings, and additional camping is available at Potato Hills Central if you need more space. The campground itself is small and straightforward: 20 sites in all, with 18 designed to accommodate both RVs and tents and 2 designated tent-only. At the lake level you'll also find campground amenities common around Sardis Lake restrooms, shower facilities, swim beaches and fishing docks are available at various lake campgrounds, and group camping and sheltered picnic areas with tables, electricity and large outdoor grills are provided for larger gatherings. Practical access to Potato Hills South is from Highway 2 north of Clayton (the lake is reached from the Indian Nations Turnpike/State Highway 43 corridor), and the Sardis Lake office can confirm current fees, reservation policies and seasonal information. Activities listed for the area include boating, camping, environmental education, fishing, picnicking, playground use, specialized sport sites, water sports and wildlife viewing, so plan according to the mix of water time and upland exploration you prefer.
