Longdale Campground sits on the shores of Canton Lake in northwest Oklahoma, about six miles north of Canton and a short county-road drive from the small town of Longdale. The site is open year-round and contains 35 primitive campsites: 34 that accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site. None of the sites have electrical hookups; water hydrants are scattered through the campground but drinking water is turned off from November through March, and during that period camping is free. A single day-use group picnic shelter with electrical outlets serves larger gatherings, and open grassy pads shaded by eastern cottonwood, post and blackjack oak, black willow, buttonbush and roughleaf dogwood give the campground a mix of sun and scattered shade. Access roads to the lake areas carry basic services and supplies and a commercial concession operates on the lake itself; for current fees, reservation rules or other site-specific policies, check with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers office that manages Canton Lake. The campground is positioned for water-based recreation and access to the wider Canton Lake recreation area. Canton's gently sloping sandy beaches and a broad, relatively protected stretch of water near the dam make swimming, tubing, personal watercraft use and water-skiing popular, while anglers come specifically for walleye Canton is a major statewide source of walleye and hosts a multi-day Walleye Rodeo each May. Boat launching, fishing jetties (including three pullouts on the dam), hiking and picnicking are common, and the larger Corps-managed area includes a nature trail, an overlook visitor center, an outdoor amphitheater, a scenic drive and an active prairie dog town. Hunters use the adjacent 14,862-acre Canton Wildlife Management Area for deer, turkey, quail, waterfowl and dove seasons. For nearby conveniences and side trips, expect a handful of restaurants within a few miles, a casino, a nine-hole golf course, a disc golf course roughly eight miles away in the Big Bend Recreation Area, and state parks such as Roman Nose and Glass Mountains about a half-hour's drive.
