“Very noisy !!! We stayed 3 nights. The first night was quiet, the second night the drunks screamed and partied past 1 AM on the far side of the loop, the third night we listened to the local nascar raceway a couple miles away.”

Russell Pond Campground occupies a quiet hillside above a spring-fed, 40-acre Russell Pond, where the water averages about 33 feet deep and is regularly stocked by the State Fish and Game Department. The site is shaded by a mature stand of northern hardwoods that filters sunlight over campsites and the small sandy beach, and wildlife is commonly seen moose, white-tailed deer and black bear are all residents of the surrounding forest, and birders may spot species found in the White Mountains, including the rare Bicknell's Thrush. The campground contains 65 sites in total: 13 sites are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, while 52 are tent-only. Basic comforts are within easy reach water faucets are a short walk from sites, flush toilets and coin-operated hot showers are available, and an amphitheater hosts free interpretive nature programs on Saturday nights in July and August. Recreation centers on the pond's non-motorized boating and fishing (power boats are not permitted), with a boat ramp, dock and beach provided for canoeing, kayaking and shore fishing. Beyond the campground, the White Mountain National Forest offers extensive opportunities: many miles of hiking and mountain-bike trails are a short drive away, the Kancamagus Scenic Byway is about six miles from the campground for scenic drives and trail access, and the region supports year-round activities from alpine and Nordic skiing to trail riding and wildlife viewing. Access is straightforward from I-93 use Exit 31 (Tripoli Road) and follow Tripoli Road east about two miles to the campground entrance on the north side of the road. For updated fees, reservation availability and seasonal opening dates, check the White Mountain National Forest website or recreation.gov before you go; also follow park guidance on food storage and wildlife safety, since bears and other large animals inhabit the area.
