WHITE MOUNTAIN
Open in Google Maps ↗
Osceola Vista Campground sits on a forested slope in the White Mountain National Forest within easy reach of Waterville Valley and Mt. Tecumseh, reached from I-93 (exit 28) and a 10-mile drive east along Highway 49 to Tripoli Road. The campground is compact 12 sites in a single loop and is laid out to handle larger parties: eight sites accommodate both RVs and tents and four are tent-only, with several sites laid out as large, open areas intended for bigger-than-average camping groups (the listing notes group capacities up to 30 or 60 people per site). Campsites sit among northern hardwoods so you'll get a mix of sun and shade, and the surrounding landscape opens toward nearby peaks, streams and the Mad and Winnipesaukee river corridors. Practical amenities are basic on site; showers are available about 10 minutes away at Campton Campground, so plan accordingly, and you should check the White Mountain National Forest website or contact the ranger district for current fees, reservation requirements, seasonal openings and any group-site policies before you go. The campground's principal appeal is access: trailheads for the Sandwich Range Wilderness and the Greeley Ponds National Scenic Area are only minutes away, and two above-tree-line hikes can be reached in roughly eight minutes, making day hikes and alpine views convenient options. Mountain bikers, paddlers and anglers will find plenty of options across the national forest, while nearby Waterville Valley Resort offers evening entertainment, restaurants, horseback riding, canoeing, golfing and bike rentals for anyone who wants a break from backcountry routes. Wildlife viewing is an added draw here the White Mountains support moose, white-tailed deer, black bear and nearly 200 bird species (including the rare Bicknell's Thrush) and winter sports, picnicking and swimming opportunities are all part of what the broader forest offers. If you're organizing a group trip or a mix of RVs and tents, Osceola Vista's larger open sites and single-loop layout make it simple to keep everyone together while still being a short drive from trailheads and local services.
