Cove Creek Lower Group Camp is a single group campsite in Pisgah National Forest that can host up to 60 people and is set along Cove Creek in the Appalachian mountains of western North Carolina. The site accepts both tents and RVs and is shaded by hardwoods with open space for group layouts; basic facilities include picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets and an on-site drinking water source. The road into the camp requires a creek crossing, and heavy rains can make that crossing impassable because of that the Forest Service recommends a four-wheel-drive or high-clearance vehicle for the approach. The campground is open year-round for group use, but specific information about fees, reservations or availability is handled by the local office (call (828) 577-4910 for the most current details). Recreation at Cove Creek Lower centers on creekside trails, fishing and access to a broader network of Pisgah National Forest activities. A short trail follows the creek to a scenic waterfall, trout anglers will find good fishing in Cove Creek and the nearby Davidson River, and several hiking and mountain-biking routes begin within a short drive of the site. Interpretive programs may be available on request, and the surrounding forest supports many of the area's outdoor pursuits from auto touring and wildlife viewing to climbing, horseback riding and swimming at local river spots making the camp a practical base for groups who want to explore the Pisgah area. The camp sits roughly an hour from Asheville's cultural amenities; from the Asheville area you'll approach via U.S. 276 into Pisgah and then a few miles on Forest Road 475A before the final creek crossing to the campground.
