“The camp workers were all so friendly and accommodating. ”

Karen D 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“We had a great time at the campground and on the river in early October. Campsite was excellent and the staff was very friendly. We will make another trip in the future. ”

Thomas C 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“We go this campground a few times a year and love it. Thankfully they are closing for a much needed bathroom overall. They were the only negative.”

About

Davidson River Recreation Area sits along the namesake stream in Pisgah National Forest, about four miles west of Brevard and roughly an hour from Asheville, at an elevation near 2,150 feet. The campground contains 133 campsites every one is configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and those sites are arranged into eight loops. Six of the loops are Laurel (17 sites), Poplar (14), Riverbend (13), Roadside (13), Sycamore (10) and Woak (15), with the remaining sites in two additional loops. Sites are mostly shaded and many back up to or sit near the river; each site comes with a picnic table, tent pad, lantern post and a campfire ring with grill. Basic comforts include hot showers and flush toilets in every loop, and the grounds sell ice and firewood; bike rentals are available nearby and a group camping area sits adjacent to the Davidson River. The facility is open year-round for reservations and cancellations use recreation.gov (this site handles refunds and no-show policies) and for facility-specific questions call (828) 577-4558. The river and surrounding forest set the tone for activities: the Davidson River is a popular spot for trout fishing, tubing and swimming that many families find especially accessible, and rangers or partners run educational programs in summer and fall. Hikers can access several trails from the campground area, from a short 1.5-mile walking route to the 3.7-mile North Slope Trail and the more demanding 12.3-mile Art Loeb Trail. Beyond day hikes and water play, Pisgah and the nearby National Forests offer auto-touring along the Blue Ridge Parkway, additional biking and climbing opportunities, and plentiful wildlife viewing. Notable nearby attractions include Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls, while the town of Brevard provides basic services and Asheville's galleries and restaurants are an easy drive for an off-camping evening.
