Perched at about 4,980 feet on the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mount Pisgah Campground sits among dense hardwood forest that keeps sites pleasantly cool on summer days and puts you within reach of classic Appalachian scenery spring wildflowers, layered ridgelines and vivid fall color. The campground borders the Pisgah Inn and its country store, and is roughly 20 miles from Asheville for groceries, fuel and medical services; you arrive there by following the Parkway's high crests from the I-40 corridor, enjoying the long-range views and the nine short tunnels that punctuate this stretch. Hiking is the campground's strongest draw: the Frying Pan Trail heads 1.6 miles south to the Fire Tower on Frying Pan Mountain and links northward toward the Pisgah Inn and Buck Spring Trail, which leads through hardwood forest to the Mt. Pisgah parking area and then a 1.6-mile uphill climb to the summit. The Shut-In Trail, once the original route from the Biltmore to Buck Spring Lodge, and the Mountains-to-Sea Trail also pass close by, so day hikes of moderate to strenuous difficulty are easy to layer onto a camping trip. Beyond hiking, the Parkway corridor here supports auto touring, biking, fishing, picnicking, wildlife viewing and visits to nearby historic and cultural sites. The campground itself contains 126 campsites spread across four loops Loop A (32 sites), Loop B (29), Loop C (33) and Loop D (32) and offers a mix of site types: 11 sites are set up to accommodate both RVs and tents, 50 are RV-designated, and 65 are tent-designated. Sites come with picnic tables and metal fire rings, and the campground provides flush toilets, drinking water and a dump station; the Pisgah Inn and adjacent country store add a convenient nearby option for meals or basic supplies. Of the 126 sites, 53 can be reserved in advance (reservable sites are handled through Recreation.gov) while 71 are managed on a first-come, first-served basis and must be claimed in person at the campground kiosk availability for those sites cannot be tracked online. Mount Pisgah fills up frequently on weekends, so plan ahead if you need a guaranteed site, or arrive early in the day if you're hoping to snag a first-come spot.
