“Even though it was dry camping, nice water for kayaking, very quiet and very dark at night. The 5.5 mile road was in very good shape, had to be aware of deer in the evening and early morning drives.”
“This was one of the best places we stayed on our Road Trip through Montana--it was a great chill place for swimming, fishing, etc right by the water. Very clean and the camp host was vey helpful. Highly recomend!”

7700 Canyon Ferry Road
Open in Google Maps ↗
White Earth Campground sits on the shore of Canyon Ferry Reservoir in the broad valley between the Big Belt and Elkhorn mountains, a landscape where wide water views meet rolling grasslands that support pronghorn, mule and white-tailed deer. The reservoir itself covers about 35,200 acres of water with roughly 76 miles of shoreline, and the larger recreation area includes three marinas (Goose Bay, Kim's, and Yacht Basin) offering boat launching, rental docks and small stores. Birdlife is a draw here too: a wildlife management area at the reservoir's end supports colonies of terns and pelicans, and the uplands are habitat for Chestnut-collared Longspurs and Long-billed Curlews. White Earth is roughly 25 miles from Helena and sits about halfway between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, so it's well placed for combining lake recreation with broader Montana touring. The campground provides 32 campsites in total 31 sites designated for both RVs and tents and one tent-only site plus a 30' x 44' group use shelter that has electrical power, eight picnic tables, an accessible vault toilet and five campsites attached to the group area. Practical facilities include a concrete boat ramp and parking for boat trailers; during the peak summer months (May 6 through Sept 10) you'll find potable water, vault toilets, trash and recycling containers and campground hosts on site. Recreation on the reservoir ranges from fishing (rainbow trout, perch, ling and walleye) and boating to paddling in quieter bays, and winter activities such as ice fishing and skating are common when conditions allow. Fees are charged only during the defined peak season; for facility-specific information call (406) 475-3920.
