“Campground is always a great spot! Well maintained, quiet, and the River setting you cant beat. Some electrical would be nice but other than that is it great! I jsut wish it stayed open longer, closing it in Sept is a waste of some beautiful camping weather...”
“Very scenic and well maintained campground. ”
“So peaceful, even with a Boy Scout group camping the same weekend. ”

Riverside Campground sits below Canyon Ferry Dam at the northern end of Canyon Ferry Reservoir, about 30 miles east of Helena and roughly halfway between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. The developed campground provides 28 paved RV sites, each with a paved pad, picnic table and fire ring, plus a boat ramp, trailer parking and several day-use picnic spots along the shoreline. A distinct group-use area is set apart from the individual sites and includes a 30' x 45' picnic shelter with eight picnic tables, a large communal fire ring and accessible vault toilets; the campground also has an accessible fishing dock. During the peak season (May 6 through Sept. 10) the site is staffed with campground hosts and offers potable water, vault toilets and dumpsters; fees are charged only during that peak period. The Bureau of Reclamation operates a seasonal visitor center nearby, and for facility-specific questions or current availability you should call (406) 475-3920. The reservoir around Riverside supports a wide range of water-based recreation: anglers pursue rainbow trout, walleye, perch and ling from shore, docks or boats, while canoeists and kayakers tuck into quiet back bays and motorboaters, water skiers and windsurfers use the open water. Three marina concessions on the lake provide boat launching, rental docks and small stores if you need gear or fuel. Wildlife viewing is a strong draw here loons, cormorants and pelicans frequent the water, and bald eagles and osprey hunt the surface; farther upland you may spot pronghorn, mule deer, white-tailed deer and grassland birds such as chestnut-collared longspurs and long-billed curlews. Note that the current below the dam is swift and swimming is not advised; in winter the lake attracts ice anglers and skaters when conditions allow.
