Devil's Elbow Campground sits on the distinctive bend of Hauser Lake known locally as the Devil's Elbow, a short drive from Helena with clear sightlines to the Big Belt and Elkhorn ranges. The landscape here is shrub-steppe sagebrush and bunchgrasses dominate, with only occasional ponderosa and deciduous trees, so shade is limited but lake breezes help on hot days; every campsite has a view of the water and surrounding mountains. The facility contains 43 reservable campsites in total: 42 are designated RV sites and one site accommodates both RVs and tents. Sites feature level gravel parking pads sized for RVs, trailers or tents, and each site comes with a fire ring and grill grate plus a picnic table. Vault toilets are located in each loop and near the boat launch, potable water and garbage dumpsters are provided throughout the day-use and camping areas, and a fish-cleaning station sits by the day-use parking. A concrete boat launch and courtesy dock serve boaters, and both day-use and overnight dock slips are available to campers on a first-come, first-served basis; a small marina, a general store with gas and a bar/restaurant are roughly a half-mile from the campground. Recreation at Devil's Elbow connects directly to the larger Hauser Lake Recreation Area: there's a small beach and multiple picnic areas, non-motorized dirt, gravel and paved trails around Devil's Elbow, Two Camps Vista and Clark's Bay for walking and biking, and access to hundreds of miles of additional trails, BLM and Forest Service lands for mountain biking, fishing, hunting and wildlife viewing. A ramada/pavilion with power and lights is available by advanced reservation (Loop C fees apply) and makes group gatherings practical. Practical rules and fees matter here sites are reservation-only, and additional camping units are $25 per day/night; Loop C's ramada carries a $50 reservation fee plus $25 per night for each site. Parties must occupy the reserved campsite every night of the reservation (check-in time is 2:00 PM); failure to occupy the site within 24 hours of check-in forfeits the site and any refund. Cancellations incur a $10 service fee, and late cancellations (the day before or day of arrival) also forfeit the first night's fee one-night reservations canceled are fully forfeited.
